Autumn internship at Kartverket - KartAI
New internship, new opportunities
Stepping into my final year as a bachelor student, I will be attending the course "IS-302 - Internship Project" over the autumn semester of 2023. During this course, I will be working on a project for a company, while documenting my progress on this blog. For my internship, I will be spending two days a week at Kartverket in Kristiansand, working on a project called KartAI.
On the about page for KartAI, it states the following:
"The main goal of the KartAi project is to enhance the efficiency of the building permit process in the municipality. This will be achieved by improving the quality of the property registry (cadastre) and map databases through the use of artificial intelligence. Additionally, automated processes will be developed to engage in dialogue with residents or property owners."
What to expect from the internship
During the internship, I will work alongside two other classmates at Kartverket, while also working closesly with another student group spending their internship at Kartverkets project partner, Norkart.
The task description for the internship states the following:
"The KartAi project is a comprehensive interdisciplinary innovation project with a central emphasis on automating and supporting the decision-making process for building permit applications using machine learning and geographical data. Visit the project's website for more information: KartAI."
Further more, the task description specifies what the team at Kartverket will work on:
1 | Setting up and running/testing NGIS-Training-Machine on selected test datasets.
2 | Creating developer-friendly documentation for NGIS-Training-Machine.
3 | Implementing a deployable demo solution of NGIS-Training-Machine.
4 | Further developing the web interface to manage user input of configurations (API keys, URLs, etc.).
Final thoughts ... For now!
I am very excited to get started with this internship. After spending the summer working on an AI project for Egde, I am looking forward to further develop and expand my knowledge within the field of AI. I am also looking forward to working with new technologies and tools, such as NGIS-Training-Machine.
After meeting the whole group during "Arendalsuka", I am really looking forward to getting to know the team at Kartverket and Norkart even better.
I am sure I will learn a ton from this experience and I will be posting updates on my progress on this blog, so stay tuned for more posts!
